MBA Summer Internship – News Services Division Job (New York City, NY, US)

The New York Times is seeking a Summer MBA Intern to join the News Services Division. The News Services Division is the primary licensing and brand extension unit of The New York Times. Its product porfolio includes content licensing and syndication such as publication licensing, branded services such as Times Journeys and NYT Wine Club, and our online retail business, T Store.

What It’s All About…

We are seeking an MBA Intern to work with two areas of our business - Publications Licensing and Retail – on strategy related projects that will grow the businesses.

The publication licensing business has grown organically over the past few years on a global scale. Publications include a licensed edition of The New York Times Style Magazine, T; the International Weekly edition of The New York Times; an annual magazine, Turning Points; branded weekly topical pages; and special-interest publications.

The New York Times Store is the destination for discerning shoppers seeking the best in unique and historical gifts. Featuring a vast assortment of items curated by The New York Times, the store offers uncommon products and gifts. Our distinctive offerings include rare artifacts and antiques, authentic autographs, personalized gifts, meticulously constructed models, fine art prints and posters from every era and extraordinary photographs from our extensive archive.

What You’ll Do…
- Conduct full market assessments, including market trends, competitive analysis, best practices , etc.
- Conduct in-depth analyses of economics, sales and market data from primary and secondary resources
- Create financial models and spreadsheets that aid in market analysis and decision-making
- Evaluate our current state and identify any gaps through needs analysis
- Develop recommendations and strategies that are both data-driven and actionable
- Develop P&Ls
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to recommend appropriate action plans and alternatives
- Communicate ideas, objectives and present results to internal stakeholders and management, as appropriate

Who Should Apply…

Ideal candidates will have experience in strategy development and/or management consulting in media or related industries. Candidates should have demonstrated leadership, excellence and the ability to thrive in demanding and ambiguous environments.

Recommended skills / characteristics include the following:
- Strategic planning skills, preferably learned at a top-tier management consultancy
- Top-notch analytical skills to assess data, create financial models and build strategic frameworks and presentations
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal clients and colleagues
- Strong written and oral communications skills
- Enthusiasm for working in a rapidly changing business environment
- Demonstrated interest in and experience in media or technology
- Passion for The New York Times

- This is a paid 12-week internship
- This is full-time, 40 hours a week
- The location is The New York Times headquarters in midtown Manhattan
