Finance Analyst Job (Boston, MA, US)

Boston Globe Media has an immediate need for a Financial Analyst who will be responsible for budgeting, forecasting and supporting the monthly financial review process, including ad-hoc reports and analysis in support of company-wide initiatives. In this highly visible position reporting to the Director of Finance, you will partner with VPs and Directors of product, advertising, business development, and marketing teams in driving strategic decisions in product launches, expansions, and ongoing operations. Additionally, you will participate in the development of the organization’s annual and long-term plan, generate performance reports and analysis and be responsible for improving the management reporting of the organization.

Responsibilities
- Act as primary business partner to VPs and Directors across Boston.com and Advertising
- Play a lead role in the recurring financial planning and reporting cycle
- Partner with management to define and analyze key success metrics and measure productivity of key corporate investments; assist in identifying performance improvement opportunities.
- Define and implement metrics that matter and reporting tools, models, and ad-hoc analysis to provide insight into product performance
- Provide strategic support, identifying opportunities and developing tools to drive revenue, analyzing data to produce insights, developing business plans, and driving scalable sales finance processes.
- As part of this role, you should have strong data analytical skills and be comfortable analyzing large sets of data. You should be very well versed in spreadsheets modeling, while also being able to draw out rich insights to influence and shape executive decision-making.
- Finally, you should have an innate ability to partner, understand and respond to changing business needs, and have a passion for solving complex problems.

Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, with an emphasis in finance, accounting or economics. (In lieu of a degree, 2 years of relevant work experience).
- 2 years of experience in financial planning, budgeting and forecasting, or in a related finance function.

Preferred qualifications
- Excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills with experience in client-facing roles, in the software, internet, or media industries.
- Ability to self-start and self-direct work in an unstructured environment; comfortable dealing with ambiguity.
- Exceptional dexterity with presentation and spreadsheet tools with experience creating financial dashboards or models and the ability to persuade others through disciplined use of data.
- Knowledge of systems like Hyperion Essbase, YieldEx, Google’s DFP.
