BostonGlobe.com Web producer
The Boston Globe is looking for a dynamic Web producer to help run BostonGlobe.com, the online home of The Boston Globe. The ideal candidate will have a passion for online storytelling and be adept at juggling multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment.
The producer will be responsible for updating BostonGlobe.com as a member of the overnight staff, preparing stories for the Web and building out section fronts for the morning. The producer will also play a pivotal role in responding to breaking news and building engaging content packages with videos, photo galleries, and graphics.
Responsibilities
- Update BostonGlobe.com homepage and section fronts by slotting links to stories, writing headlines and teases, and cropping photos
- Prepare stories for publication by approving metadata and publishing
- Slot related links, photos, graphics, and videos in stories
- Communicate with editors and reporters on news coverage
- Monitor wires and competitors’ websites
- Handle the Globe’s social media accounts
- Build photo galleries and multimedia packages
Qualifications and Skills
- Prior online journalism experience
- Speed and accuracy on deadline
- Excellent headline writing and copy editing skills
- Experience with publishing content online and familiarity with a CMS
- Familiarity with a variety of Web tools, including HTML and Photoshop
- Ability to create compelling story packages. Published writing samples, including personal blogs, will be evaluated
- Understanding of SEO concepts
- Ability to confidently make editorial judgments
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work within a close-knit editorial team
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
