The New York Times is seeking a Summer Technology Intern to join the New Products team.

What It’s All About…

Every day, The New York Times delivers world-class journalism to millions of readers through our growing family of digital products. Our team is tasked with discovering the future of digital journalism. We’re looking for you to join our web development team for the summer and work on our recently launched cooking.nytimes.com.

What You’ll Do…

During the summer you’ll be a full part of our development team, working on everything from adding new features, to fixing bugs, to helping re-architect existing components. You’ll be working on a high-impact project and you will be matched with a technical mentor to lead the way. You’ll be a member of a small, dedicated project team, working also with editors, product managers and designers. By the end of summer, you’ll be able to point to a piece of the app and talk about what you did to make it happen.

- Someone interested in being introduced to our software development standards and process, from design to implementation and deployment
- Those who want to be treated like a member of the team and given ownership of pieces of the codebase
- If you desire to be matched with a personal technical mentor who gives you the chance to learn alongside some of the most talented people in the industry

Recommended skills / characteristics include the following:
- You are already familiar with Ruby-on-Rails, JavaScript, or Go and will be able to hit the ground running
- You are familiar with version control systems such as git, even if you’re still a little scared of rebase
- You are self-starter and a team player who enjoys coding with other people
- You have an interest in cross-functional product development and can communicate product or design priorities
- You have an interest in journalism and want to build amazing innovative experiences for our readers

The Gritty Details…
- This is a paid 10 week internship, 40 hours a week
- Start date is early June to mid August
- Location is The New York Times headquarters in midtown Manhattan
