The New York Times is seeking a Summer Technology Intern to join the New Products, iOS team.

What It’s All About…

Every day The New York Times delivers world-class journalism to millions of readers through our native iPhone and iPad applications. We’re looking to expand on that success with new mobile applications around focused topics like dining, travel and a more scannable news experience. We’re looking for an intern to join our iOS team for the summer and work on one of these new projects.

What You’ll Do…

During the summer you’ll be a full part of the team, working on everything from adding new features to fixing a few bugs to helping extract our code into CocoaPods. Since we’re a small team, there’s a good chance that by the end of summer you’ll be able to point to a piece of the public app and talk about what you did to make it happen. We treat you like a member of the team and give you ownership of pieces of the codebase.

Who Should Apply…

You have an interest in journalism and product development and want to help make great new products for our readers. You also want to be introduced you to our development standards and processes, including peer code reviews.

Recommended skills / characteristics include the following:
- Pursuing a four year Comp Sci degree or equivalent
- Familiar with Objective-C and iOS development and will be able to hit the ground running.
- Familiar with version control systems such as git, even if you’re still a little scared of rebase
- Top-notch problem solving skills and solid judgment
- Ideally you will have an interest in digital media
- Passion for the NYT
- The ability to communicate and collaborate well with a smart, diverse team is a must

The Gritty Details…
- This is a paid 10 week internship, 40 hours a week
- Start date is early June to mid August
- Location is The New York Times headquarters in midtown Manhattan
