The New York Times is seeking a Summer Technology Intern to join the User Generated Content team.
What It’s All About…
Are you looking to work on an exciting project that impacts millions of mobile and website users each day? Do you want to help us build the next exciting project in Social Media for the nytimes.com website? Are you looking for a project that will push your skills and creative nature beyond its limits?
What You’ll Do…
- Conducting analysis and building data models
- Building software tools to index and serve content from various data sources
- Building tools to engage our users and provide for an enriched NYTimes.com experience
- Optimizing for scalability — speed, high availability, minimal footprint
- Working with stakeholders across the company
Who Should Apply…
You are very familiar with challenging problems, the nature of social media including the necessity for high availability and the need to scale quickly. People with a desire to work with large scale web applications. You prefer to challenge the norm and create exciting new ways for a company to connect with our users.
Recommended skills / characteristics include the following:
- Currently working on a degree in Computer Science
- Unix/Linux proficiency
- Fundamentals of software design, coupled with a deep understanding of object oriented software design patterns
- Top-notch problem solving skills and solid judgment
- Ideally you will have an interest in digital media
- Passion for the NYT
- The ability to communicate and collaborate well with a smart, diverse team is a must
The Gritty Details…
- This is a paid 10 week internship, 40 hours a week
- Start date is early June to mid August
- Location is The New York Times headquarters in midtown Manhattan
