Job Title: Editor, Entertainment and Culture site

Location: Boston, MA

Job Description:

Boston.com is seeking a highly motivated editor to run a sister site dedicated to nightlife, arts, and culture and aimed at 18- to 35-year-olds. The editor will supervise a network of freelance contributors who will experiment with new multimedia and digital storytelling tools to create informative, entertaining content for Boston’s large and vibrant community of young adults.

Responsibilities:

Ultimately, this person must commission, edit and oversee A&E and lifestyle-related profiles, features, reviews and interactive media by staff and freelance writers, as well as assign long-form features and short blog posts, in addition to overseeing branded social media accounts and managing the city’s most comprehensive, curated events calendar, ever.

Qualifications:

· You’re a passionate attendee of live music shows, comedy clubs, book signings, restaurant openings, (at all levels of venue), events, and parties. You get invited to more Facebook events than you can count, and you’re on the email list for seemingly every PR firm in New England (and New York).

· The perfect applicant is a news and social media junkie who spends more time on Twitter than with their own family.

· This person would have proven experience managing teams of freelancers or staff. And by “proven,” we mean that the members of the team didn’t immediately de-friend you after leaving your employ, and you have a decent list of LinkedIn recommendations from your old writers.

· You must be well versed in multiple kinds of content management systems and comfortable enough to jump into our system after a quick overview.

· This is a job that requires 4 to 6 years full-time experience in the online news industry. But, if you’re a recent grad who needs a gig, that’s awesome, be a freelancer and hit us up for an assignment.

· You have excellent copyediting skills, and regularly correct your mother’s bad texting grammar.

· You are highly organized in a way that makes Monk feel inferior.

· You can easily write blog posts about any of the following (or something like these), and/or be able to edit them proficiently: Leaning In and Other Disasters, Reasons to Hit Up the Davis Square Farmer’s Market, a review of Speedy Ortiz’s new album, Men’s Fashion Must-Have’s for Fall 2013, etc.

· You must be ambitious and ready to meet demanding deadlines. You can collaborate effectively with a small team of like-minded, young individuals who want to quickly launch a unique product, and you can not only contribute, but drive it forward from the helm.
