The New York Times is looking for a creative front-end engineer to join our Ad Innovations team. The ideal candidate will write scalable, reusable, testable, mobile-first front-end code; identify creative opportunities for unique visualizations and rich media in our mobile web and app products; and create beautiful, working prototypes to iterate on with design and business teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Create front-end prototypes using web technologies, including but not limited to HTML5, CSS and JavaScript for responsive development projects
- Develop rich web visualizations for embedding in mobile applications, including iOS and Android
- Assist design and production teams, directly and indirectly, in creative brainstorming and proof-of-concept development
Qualifications:
- Strong background in web technologies, including HTML5, CSS and JavaScript
- Experience developing and troubleshooting applications on diverse devices, including mobile and tablet
- Native mobile app development is a plus, but not required
- Experience with MRAID is a strong plus
- Experience with D3 or similar visualization technology is a strong plus
- Web service experience, or other server-side development experience is a plus
- Working with a variety of open source frameworks and web technologies (e.g. Angular, Backbone, Ajax, JSON API’s, etc...)
- Solid understanding of UI/UX design and high interest in investing and developing new experiences for all devices
