We are looking for a Video Software Engineer passionate about large scale video distribution challenges. You will be responsible for improving our encoding profiles, video quality, helping evolve our video pipeline and create/improve our APIs. You will help us to create an awesome Live and VOD experiences for our award winning content. You will be working with a highly skilled team and have a huge impact at the Times--Since video is so visible and important. This is a unique opportunity as the Times is fully invested in improving our video experience and diving into all new areas of video content delivery.
Must Have
- Strong work experience building APIs
- Strong knowledge in at least one of these languages Go, Scala or Python
- Work experience with video delivery (RTMP, HLS and/or MPEG-DASH).
- Work experience with raw video (ie: color space conversion).
- Work experience in designing Audio or Video pipeline.
- DevOps skills (Linux containers/Docker, Puppet, Ansible, Varnish, Nginx, AWS).
- Work experience with: FFmpeg, GStreamer, libavcodec, Mediainfo.
- In-depth understanding of H.264 and AAC standards.
Should Have
- XP in Agile Software Development: pair programming, TDD, Continuous Delivery, etc.
- Experience with unit/integration/functional tests: culture and tools.
- Previous experience developing and maintaining large-scale web applications.
- Public (github, bitbucket) and open source video related projects and/or contributions.
Nice to have
- Experience with H.265 and/or VP9.
- Experience working with the MediaSource API.
- Contributed to open source projects libav, x264, FFmpeg.
