Job Description:
The New York Times is looking for a creative and talented architect to work on the content management team. We work closely with editorial, design, our web and mobile application development team and other technology groups to provide tools that publish content to nytimes.com and our mobile apps. This person needs to be strong in Java and/or other languages on the JVM.
What you will do:
- Define and be actively involved in the development of the next gen architecture of The New York Times CMS
- Collaborate closely with other development teams to make sure the CMS can handle the varied requirements of the multiple platforms that The New York Times supports.
- Exploring and introducing emerging technologies into the CMS tech stack.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of software development experience
- Practical expertise scaling web applications
- Excellent knowledge of the concurrency models on the JVM
- Expertise with ElasticSearch or Solr or equivalent
- Expertise with a messaging platform like ActiveMQ
- Excellent familiarity with frameworks like Spring, Hibernate and Jersey
- Extremely comfortable working with a RDBMS system (preferably MySQL)
- Familiarity and working experience with more than one programming model (OOP, FP etc.,)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
Nice to have:
Familiarity with MongoDB or other no-SQL databases
Familiarity with Hazelcast
Experience with other languages in the JVM (Scala, Clojure, Groovy, Clojure)
Comfortable working in a Linux environment
Comfortable with JavaScript
Familiarity with AGILE software development concepts
