Job Description:
New York Times is seeking an experienced Technical Lead / Java Developer / Architect that will be responsible for technical oversight of the B2B application. B2B is a Websphere / Java / Oracle web based application that manages production and distribution related activity with New York Times business partners. The ideal candidate will have extensive proven experience leading an off-shore development and support team in a customer facing logistics application. The candidate will be expected to be very hands-on and will be developing, designing, debugging and preparing code for deployment as an integral part of the team.
Responsibility/Skills
1. Leads off-shore support / development team
2. Provide architectural vision for application
3. Introduce and leverage new technologies
4. Assure consistent design and development standards
5. Challenge team to nurture critical thinking skills
6. Develop deployment and migration procedures
7. Extensive experience with web development and configuration management tools.
8. Ability to manage several simultaneous development threads and QA threads
9. Assist in designing application hardware topology for performance, high availability and business continuity
10. Project management and facilitation skills
11. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Technical Experience
1. Six years hands-on experience in J2EE development, with a minimum of two years working with web services
2. Experience writing database stored procedures and queries using PL/SQL
3. Extensive knowledge of REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, XSLT, XSD and J2EE technologies (JSP, JDBC, EJB, JNDI, JMS)
4. Extensive experience with Websphere application server and experience with JBoss a plus
5. Working knowledge of Solaris and Linux environments
6. Experience developing web and other digital based applications
7. A working knowledge of load balancers and high availability architecture
8. Understanding of network architecture including basic routing and virtual IP
Education /Qualifications
BS/MS in Computer Science (preferred), Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a similar technical discipline plus 10 years IT experience with increasing levels of responsibility. A min of 4 yrs in a leadership role delivering applications based on technologies outlined above.
