Our next goal is to customize this experience, enabling our 72 million monthly unique visitors to receive custom notifications on any platform, taking full advantage of the hundreds of articles and videos The New York Times publishes every day. We are looking for an excellent software engineering manager to help us build and manage the team that scale and define the future of these systems.
Responsibilities:
- Enthusiasm for building fast and reliable backend systems in UNIX-like environments
- Ability to triage problems, prioritize tasks and implement change in a live, high-traffic system
- Build and mentor a high performing team of developers responsible for the New York Times Messaging Platform
- Guide the team to use best practices in software architecture and delivery
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to balance priorities and support the company’s strategic goals
- Help set the strategic direction for our systems while balancing scalability, speed, high availability, and optimal resource utilization.
Requirements:
- A team player who is able to work well across disciplines to move the product forward
- A strong product sense and the vision to translate product goals into high quality shippable code
- 3-5+ years experience programming in either Python, GoLang or Java
- Solid understanding of distributed, scalable web application architecture
- Fundamentals of software design, coupled with a deep understanding of object-oriented software and design patterns
- Experience with full product lifecycles, rapid prototyping, and iterative product development
- Previous experience as a technical manager
- B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience
