The New York Times is seeking a Summer Technology Intern to join the Web Products team.
What It’s All About…
The Web Products team is responsible for nytimes.com - a high-profile news website that reaches millions of users globally each day. We are looking for an intern who is motivated by building the best experience for our users using modern tools and frameworks.
What You’ll Do…
As an intern for the web products team at The New York Times, you’ll have the opportunity to work with seasoned developers that work on the technology behind nytimes.com. You’ll get exposure to a modern software stack that the nytimes.com is built on and the opportunity to work on a new independent project to support the team.
Who Should Apply…
The ideal candidate should have a basic understanding of web development concepts and the basic architecture of web applications. You should have an understanding of object-oriented software development, design patterns and agile methodologies.
Recommended skills / characteristics include the following:
- Ability to work with a variety of web languages and familiar with making AJAX requests to an API
- Comfortable working with the entire web stack (HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP) and knowledge of test-driven development is a huge plus!
- Pursuing a four year Comp Sci degree or equivalent
- Top-notch problem solving skills and solid judgment
- Ideally you will have an interest in digital media
- Passion for the NYT
- The ability to communicate and collaborate well with a smart, diverse team is a must
The Gritty Details…
- This is a paid 10 week internship, 40 hours a week
- Start date is early June to mid August
- Location is The New York Times headquarters in midtown Manhattan
