Software Engineer, eCommerce Job (New York City, NY, US)

A software engineer is required to work on the New York Times state-of-the-art pay model projects. New York Times is a world leader in paid digital subscriptions. Paid subscriptions were introduced in 2011 and the project has since generated over 700,000 subscribers, changing the face of the business. The role requires an engineer to work on various components of subscription management, billing, and accounting functionality. Paid subscription solutions widely utilize Open Source technologies based on Java, PHP, and SQL databases.

We’re looking for generalists that can learn new technologies quickly to solve problems. The ideal candidate must have high standards with regard to the quality and maintainability of the underlying software. In addition, they must possess the ability to design systems, communicate and work effectively in development teams, write scalable, high quality code and deliver work on schedule. The work is based in NY.

Qualifications:


- Strong Java

- Experience with at least one scripting language (PHP, Python, etc)

- Strong relational database background (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL)

- Web Services experience (RESTful)

- Ability to work proficiently in a Unix/Linux environment

- Strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms

- Experience with interactive end user applications

- Formal Computer Science background

- Working in an agile development methodology and continuous delivery environment a plus

- Working knowledge of NoSQL databases (Mango, Cassandra) is a plus

Responsibilities:


- Engineers and develops software

- Unit and functional testing

- Contributes to code reviews
