Job Description:
You've spent the last few years honing your Linux skills. You know how to architect scalable, maintainable system infrastructures that can run themselves. You know your way around the AWS Console. Perhaps you've written some Javascript or PHP when the opportunity presented itself. For you, professional satisfaction is not just a nice-to-have, it's necessary. Here is your next challenge:
The Web Products team is responsible for building and maintaining the next-generation technology platform that runs nytimes.com. The DevOps Engineer will help this team build infrastructure, automate processes and architect applications.
You already know that The New York Times is a leading global, multimedia news and information company.
But, did you know it is also a leading tech employer?
Did you know that The New York Times fosters innovation with regular "100% day" events where developers can work on anything that interests them, and "Innovation Challenge" contests that offer developers the opportunity to present a new product or idea?
Did you know that New York Times developers are supported in improving their professional skills through tech talks, developer conferences, and hack days?
How does this stack up to your current situation?
The Web Products team is responsible for nytimes.com - a high-profile news website that reaches millions of users globally each day. We are looking for an engineer who is motivated by building the best experience for our users using modern tools and frameworks. We prefer at least 5 years of professional experience.
You should have a strong understanding of Linux and automated provisioning systems like Puppet. Scripting languages like Bash should be second-nature to you. Previous experience with cloud-based virtualization (EC2, VMWare ESX) is required. The ability to communicate and collaborate well with a smart, diverse team is a must.
