Job Description

The New York Times is seeking a leader of people, technology and products for its digital video area. Video is a strategic, expanding and exciting area of great importance to our company. You will play a key role in the success of this venture.

Responsibilities

o Responsible for all aspects of video technology, systems and tech staff working on video at The New York Times.
- There are seven systems and areas of video technology which will include:
- broadcast engineering: production systems, cameras, other video sources, lighting, routers, outboard processors, audio, signal paths and cabling and television technologies;
- media management: asset management, workflows, metadata taxonomies and library science, content lifecycle and management and archiving;
- video engineering: codecs, encoding/format conversion, render farms, live streaming, video on demand and content delivery network (CDN) publishing;
- systems administration: networking, storage, tape and business continuity/disaster recovery/high availability;
- application development: client player, Web page integration, ad integration and customer experience;
- content publishing: integration with content management systems;
- vendor management: contracts and service level agreements.
- Supervise a team of technologists and lead by influence other technologists doing work on video reporting to other parts of the technology organization.
- Responsible for video related systems and workflows, end-to-end from cameras capturing videos to playback on devices, with everything in between.
- Serve as the primary technology contact for the GM of Video Production.

Qualifications
- Five years of related professional work experience.
- Proven track record of managing and leading people across departmental lines, working well with your direct reports and leading people by influence who do not report in to you.
- Experience being the head of a technology team, being the primary technical contact for the senior business stakeholder.
- Deep subject matter expertise and hands-on experience in many of the systems and areas of video technology listed above.
- Expert in the business of digital and online video, including video content, video advertising and integration of video with other forms of content.
