Job Description:
The New York Times is looking for a creative and talented software engineer to work on the content management team. We work closely with editorial, design, our mobile application development team and other technology groups to provide tools that publish content to nytimes.com and our mobile apps. This person needs to be strong in Java, but also flexible and comfortable in other languages and willing to work throughout the entire technology stack to the front end. You’re very comfortable playing in the browser environment and know your way around FireBug (or equivalent) and the console. Junior and senior positions are available.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Solid understanding of web application architecture and the fundamentals of software design, object oriented software, and design patterns.
- 5+ years experience with Java
- Experience with one or more JavaScript MVC Frameworks, such as Backbone or AngularJS.
- Solid communication and organization skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaborate with a team.
- Expertise and strong understanding of data interchange formats (JSON, XML, protocol buffers etc.,) and best practices in using them.
- Understanding of RESTful web services-based architecture and related technologies.

Nice to have:
- Experience with content management systems or blogging platforms
- Familiarity with MongoDB or other no-SQL databases
- Experience with messaging frameworks such as JMS
- Experience with other languages in the JVM (Scala, Groovy, Clojure, etc.)
- Comfortable working in a Linux environment
- Familiarity with agile software development concepts
- Familiarity with continuous delivery
