The New York Times is seeking a curious, creative and collaborative full stack developer to join a team that will prototype and launch a new product for the New York Times.
You will be a part of the department that launched the NYT Now and NYT Cooking, both named Best apps of 2014 by Apple, and the popular website cooking.nytimes.com. We are a small, nimble team that works well together and cares as much about the product as the underlying technology. We have weekly product show-and-tell sessions, regular hack weeks to explore new ideas, and frequently bring in industry leaders to discuss their work in product and technology development.
You should be someone who enjoys collaborating and working with vague requirements. As the technical leader on the team, you will be a key part of the product development process by building prototypes to explore ideas. When you find something that resonates with users, you’ll be the one leading the team to launch something new for the Times.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical guidance and strategy to non-technical team members as you explore new product ideas
- Develop functional prototypes of new products
- Take ownership of developing portions of new applications for the New York Times' website
- Work as part of a small, cross-functional team including product, design and the newsroom to create new products on nytimes.com
Requirements:
- A strong interest in improving the way we deliver our journalism to readers
- A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- A demonstrated ability to manage one’s time and see projects through to completion
- Experience developing and launching web applications
- Hands-on experience developing in a range of client and server side web technologies
