The iOS mobile team at the New York Times is looking for an experienced engineering manager to lead the development team responsible for the award-winning NYTimes iPhone & iPad applications.
The iOS News Reader team consists of product-focussed, conscientious coders who think big and care deeply about their work. The apps themselves have received multiple Webby and Apple "Best Of” awards and you will have the opportunity to build upon products with millions of users and ambitious plans for 2015. The team cares deeply about the journalism of the Times and we work hard to make sure our products reflect that mission.
As the engineering manager, you will report to the Director of Technology for iOS and you will be responsible for setting technical direction, mentoring developers, and shipping code. Responsibilities
- Mentor a high performing team of iOS developers.
- Guide the team to use best practices in iOS development and delivery.
- Work with product managers, project managers, and designers to balance priorities and drive the team toward shippable products.
- Be a strong voice in strategic technical discussions.
- Practice servant-leadership by picking up the least pleasant coding tasks.
- Advocate for a collaborative team culture that empowers individuals.
Requirements
- A strong technical background, including hands-on native iOS experience.
- Experience leading a mobile software development team through the process of building and releasing an app to the App store.
- A strong product sense and the vision to translate product goals into high quality shippable code.
