The New York Times is looking for a talented technologist to join our E-Commerce and Marketing Technology team as a Dev Manager. We partner and work very closely with various technology groups within the organization and our software powers the Marketing & Care business with a keen focus towards our customers. You will be responsible for creating innovative solutions by developing applications, integrating third party solutions, and leading a team of developers for The New York Times. As a Development Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing development activities being executed by both internal and vendor development resources. This team operates using an Agile delivery methodology, which you will need to lead. The Development Manager role assumes the responsibility for technical solutions implemented by the team and will also need to support solutions when deployed in production.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience building and architecting web applications
- Minimum of 3+ years’ experience as a technical lead or development manager
- Expert level understanding of modern software development methodologies and frameworks
- Strong experience integrating systems using secure web services
- Proficient creating design documents, process flows and systems integration
- Experience setting up development processes with tools such as Git/SVN, Maven, Puppet, Ansible, Hudson/Jenkins or equivalent
- Strong Java and PHP
- Strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms and principle of object oriented design
- Experience designing JSON based RESTful Web Services
- Strong experience building relational databases - Mysql, Oracle
- Experience in Unix environment and shell scripting
- Experience with NoSQL databases (Mongo, Redis, Cassandra) is a plus
- Working knowledge of search engine such as Elastic Search is a plus
- Experience in Digital Marketing domain working on campaign management and content management tools is a plus
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent / higher experience
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with product and project managers to design features and prioritize tasks
- Lead technical teams by mentoring and coaching, answering questions and solving problems
- Lead the solution / design process of new features and enhancements to the software platform
- Ability to work independently and delivering on agreed upon timelines
- Ensure applications are developed with sufficient unit test coverage
- See all changes through to production deployment
- Lead peer reviews of code
- Learn and understand when to use services available from other teams
- Working closely with the QA, project management, product management and business teams on solution implementation
- Assemble releases and drive improvements in the delivery and release processes
- And – write code
