Product Manager, eCommerce/Brand Extensions Job (New York City, NY, US)

The New York Times is looking for a product lead to manage the development of its brand extension and licensing products, growing businesses for the Company. These products include The Times Store, Times Journeys, and The Wine Club.

The Product Manager will be responsible for translating product goals into product requirements, to execute on aspects of those requirements from development, QA, user acceptance testing and launch. S/he will optimize products to deliver against key financial and strategic goals while maximizing our customer experience. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing successful ecommerce products, strong analytic and strategic skills and a desire to help define the next generation of consumer ecommerce sites across platforms.

Responsibilities:

- Work closely across various internal teams (e.g., Development, QA, Merchandising, Marketing, Design Finance, Legal, etc) to develop the product strategy and roadmap for The Online Store, Times Journeys, and other products as needed.
- Identify, document and prioritize product requirements (wireframes, specs, flows) based on user research/user feedback, market trends, competitor research, key stakeholders conversations and business goals. Make scope tradeoff decisions in consultation with product and business leadership teams.
- Work closely with engineering and project management teams to manage the product development cycle and execute on the roadmap.
- Define, monitor and analyze key performance metrics, clearly communicate what they represent and use them to improve our products, generate incremental revenue and identify new opportunities.
- Maintain a strong understanding of best in class UI design in ecommerce. Identify and act upon opportunities for improvement on existing site functionality and for ensuring consistent performance.
- Help manage 3rd party vendors to align product vision, set development schedule and ensure delivery of product integration per the roadmap.
- Some weekend and/or late night/early morning hours needed due to deployment requirements.
- Additional duties and tasks assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

- At least 3 years of website and mobile product management experience in ecommerce with a focus on retail; preference will be given to candidates with experience working on consumer facing digital products.
- Ability to synthesize customer research, user data, industry trends and internal requirements into an actionable product roadmap
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; proven ability to guide cross-functional teams through influence versus direct management
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to understand financial measurements and how to impact them
- Experience with Agile/scrum software development methodology and development tools like Jira ;WordPress; Magento and other related ecommerce platforms. Experience with Web analytics tools like Google Analytics. Knowledge of HTML and HTML5 technologies. Experience with wire framing programs.
- Willingness to roll up the sleeves and do whatever is necessary to meet team goals; takes initiative and is a problem solver
- Excellent customer experience intuition; demonstrated success in creating innovative and user-friendly, customer-facing features and communicating these through wire frames and mock ups
- An understanding and passion for the Times journalism and brand
- Bachelor's degree required
