The New York Times is seeking a Summer Technology Intern to join Paperboy.
What It’s All About…
Interested in delivering the world's top news to millions of people every day? The New York Times has a custom, in-house email platform that sends billions of emails to our readers each year and we could use your help making it bigger, faster and more reliable.
What You’ll Do…
You’ll be working with top engineers to build out web apps to provide valuable email analytics to our newsroom and use cutting-edge technology to create internal tools that could be featured on NYTimes.com development blogs (beta620.nytimes.com & open.blogs.nytimes.com). You will need to code high-volume software and internal tools using Go and Python. Additionally this intern will implement web interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (Bootstrap, Backbone.js & jQuery).

Join our email team and jump right into our quick development cycle. With our dedicated team, you'll get a chance to work with the full stack including our core emailing software, our analytics platform, and our scheduling and reporting UI.
Recommended skills / characteristics include the following:
- Pursuing a four year Comp Sci degree or equivalent
- Expertise in at least 1 language (Preferably Go, Java, C++, PHP or Python)
- Knowledge of NoSQL (MongoDB) and/or relational (MySQL) databases
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS and Javascript
- Top-notch problem solving skills and solid judgment
- Ideally you will have an interest in digital media
- Passion for the NYT
- The ability to communicate and collaborate well with a smart, diverse team is a must
The Gritty Details…
- This is a paid 10 week internship, 40 hours a week
- Start date is early June to mid August
- Location is The New York Times headquarters in midtown Manhattan
