The NYT Beta team is looking for a self-motivated, product-minded Project Manager to support day-to-day operations on the NYT Cooking product.
The NYT Beta team creates products and services around existing NYT verticals, extending the New York Times value proposition to new audiences. You will be a part of the team behind NYT Crossword, NYT Now, and NYT Cooking. We are a small, nimble team that works well together and cares as much about the product as the underlying technology.
Our ideal candidate has worked as a project manager on a digital consumer product, where they have had experience working on an integrated team consisting of product development, designers, and software engineers. Preference will be given to those who have background in business analysis and have a proven history of managing the creation of a product from conception to launch.
Candidates should have experience implementing and supporting Agile practices and must be able to work well in a fast paced, iterative, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities:
- Work as a Project Manager within the NYT Beta team, supporting Agile software development practices with all team members
- Build strong cross-departmental collaborative relationships with Product, Newsroom, Design, Technology, Advertising, and Marketing, becoming a trusted partner and gaining confidence of stakeholders
- Meets regularly with Team Leads to understand project and program status
- Maintains project milestones and manages roadmap planning with Product Leads, actively monitoring project risks and scope creep to foresee/identify potential issues and proactively identify solutions
- Write or drive the creation of functional specifications, user stories, or actionable tasks
- Coordinates with the QA group on development projects and ensures that assigned projects are properly tested
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility in problem solving and in handling uncertainty, adapting and changing tasks according to project needs
- Coordinates and collaborates with other technology teams within the Times
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Must have extensive Project Manager experience, or other applicable experience
- Must have Agile coaching/leadership experience and embrace servant-leadership
- Must have hands-on experience with supporting and teaching practices like Iteration Planning, Release Planning, Retrospectives, Writing User Stories, Continuous Delivery, Test-Driven Development
- Must have understanding of web and mobile (iOS preferred) application technologies
- Must have excellent communication skills and be able to work with various groups to resolve conflicts
- Must have experience in working in a fast-paced environment, and be able to handle multiple projects at the same time
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, negotiating, influencing, facilitation, organizational, prioritization, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills
