Position: T Brand Studio is a new and exciting group within The New York Times that is focused on bringing innovative advertising content products to market for brands and advertisers.
We are hiring Software Architect to manage the technical development of products and technical initiatives. This includes development of single-page applications, compelling and accurate data-visualizations and engaging interactive experiences on multiple devices. We want someone who is incredibly analytical and has an ability to see the “edge” cases in all development scenarios. Our mandate is to advocate for and create high-quality web technology (along with server side components where necessary) in collaboration with UX architects, designers and developers in a fast-paced environment. A good candidate will have a passion for keeping up with new technologies and building rapid prototypes in a self-directed manner.
Responsibilities and Key Areas of Accountability:
- Provide technical leadership to a team of engineers and be an effective advocate for the technology group
- Develop a wide variety of advertising content, including single-page applications, mobile integrations and dynamic ad units
- Maintain a coherent, progressive development strategy for our products
- Maintain high standards of code quality, design patterns, documentation, standards and security across the team
- Participate in and drive code reviews, architecture reviews and deployment walk-through functions with the other developers
Requirements:
- 7-10 years of experience in software development including 3+ years in a management or leadership position
- Mastery of Javascript, HTML, CSS and related tools and technologies
- Strong desire to build as well as a sense of ownership, urgency and drive
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Thick skin and a top-notch sense of humor
