The New York Times is seeking a Summer Technology Intern to join the New Products team.
What It’s All About…
We're a small, laid-back (but passionate) team of cross-functional digital professionals that drives strategic innovation through rapid-cycle concepting, prototyping, testing, and learning. Users’ needs are truly at the heart of all our decisions, so we spend a lot of time trying to understand them. We’re also helping to reinvent how the Digital group at The New York Times innovates and develops successful web and mobile products for our users.
In addition to advocating for our users, our team also focuses on arming our colleagues with the tools and techniques necessary to build the most valuable products possible with the least amount of waste.
Some of What You’ll Do…
- Product strategy/analysis
- User research and testing
- Rapid prototyping
- Concept sketching
- Gamestorming
- Lean process development
- Client interviews
Who Should Apply…
You are very interested in using data to solve hard problems. You probably have already dabbled with machine learning at some point. Introverts and extroverts alike are welcome, but in this internship, you’ll be more likely to be found conducting user interviews in Central Park than sitting at your desk.
Recommended skills / characteristics include the following:
You have an interest in technology and business, or product management, or user experience design, or research, or strategy. You’re someone with the mental and emotional agility to embrace change and the blend of creativity and analytical skills, which helps you see both sides of a story.
- Pursuing a four year Comp Sci, engineering, statistics or applied match background or equivalent
- Top-notch problem solving skills and solid judgment
- Passion for the NYT
The Gritty Details…
- This is a paid 10 week internship, 40 hours a week
- Start date is early June to mid August
- Location is The New York Times headquarters in midtown Manhattan
- Tech interns get lots of great perks including food, local transportation and more…
It’s The New York Times!
