The NYTimes Ad Tech team is a rapidly growing group of Engineers with the open mandate to use technology in the service of advertising at The New York Times. We are hiring a back-end Engineer to assist in the development of web services and data analytics. This role requires a developer with solid coding skills in Java, Node , and database skills to work on a suite of web services and backend systems. The work is based in NY.
Qualifications:
- Expertise in Java (or similar object-oriented language) and back-end development
- Familiarity with web technology including JavaScript is strongly preferred
- Experience with relational databases (Oracle, MySQL or SQL server)
- Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or similar is a plus
- Working knowledge of NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra) is a plus
- Web Services development experience is strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms
- Good communication skills
- Formal Computer Science background
Responsibilities:
- Designs and develops software
- Works with business and product to deliver specifications, requirements, and documentation
- Unit tests developed software
- Ensures developed software is handed off to QA for further testing
- Contributes to peer reviews of software
