Job Description:
The New York Times is looking for a fantastic team worker with deep technical knowledge and strong communications skills to serve as our architect for Search Engine Optimization. In this role, you will define and implement a company-wide technical strategy for growing our online audience. You will coordinate multiple search engine optimization projects across multiple technology teams. You will provide technical direction to the search engine optimization engineering staff. And you will be the primary point of contact for all technical audience development issues for our newsroom and product teams.
Requirements
- B.S./B.A. in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience.
- Solid understanding of web application architecture and the fundamentals of software design, object oriented software, and design patterns.
- Mastery of Java or Python and experience with both.
- Mastery of HTML, JavaScript, CSS and PHP.
- Experience developing systems with at least one relational database technology (e.g. MySQL) and one non-relational database (e.g. MongoDB).
- Experience specifying and implementing systems that span multiple technology teams.
- Strong track record of systems successfully running in production.
- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
- Exceptional team-worker with strong communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Meets with stakeholders across the organization to gather requirements and validate results.
- Develop and/or refine technical architectures for all projects on the SEO roadmap.
- Provide technical direction and oversight for the SEO software engineering staff.
- Collaborate with developers on a variety of teams to implement systems using a variety of technologies including Python, PHP, Java, MySQL, and MongoDB.
- Coordinate with analytics teams to quantify results.
