Sr Software Architect – eCommerce Job (New York City, NY, US)

A software developer is required to work on the New York Times state-of-the-art pay model projects. New York Times is a world leader in paid digital subscriptions. Paid subscriptions were introduced in 2011 and the project has since generated over 700,000 subscribers, changing the face of the business. The role requires a hands-on architect/senior developer to work on various components of subscription management, billing, accounting, and financial reporting functionality. Paid subscription solutions widely utilize Open Source technologies based on Java, PHP, and SQL databases. The work is based in NY.

Qualifications:


- Strong Java

- Experience with PHP is a plus

- Strong relational database background (Oracle, MySQL or SQL server)

- Working knowledge of NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra) is a plus

- Comfortable setting up and configuring web servers (Apache, nginx)

- Experience with Hadoop is a plus

- Experience designing JSON based RESTful Web Services

- Experience designing solutions for interactive end user applications, batch processing, and message based systems

- Strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms

- Good communication skills

- Formal Computer Science background

Responsibilities:


- Design, develop, and maintain applications

- Ensure applications are developed with sufficient unit test coverage

- Work closely with QA to iterate on bug fixes

- See all changes through to production deployment

- Lead peer reviews of code

- Learn and understand when to use services available from other teams
