Our next goal is to customize this experience, enabling our 31 million monthly unique visitors to receive custom notifications on any platform, taking full advantage of the hundreds of articles and videos The New York Times publishes every day. We are looking for excellent software engineers to help us scale and define the future of these systems. You will have the opportunity to code at all levels of our stack, from backend data systems to frontend HTML/JS/CSS. You will collaborate with teams throughout the company to implement the latest web standards and revitalize existing systems. Most importantly, you will work with some of the most talented, passionate and dedicated developers on the planet.
Requirements
- B.S./B.A. in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
- 3+ years experience in full stack development
- Solid understanding of web application architecture and the fundamentals of scalable system design
- Mastery of a backend language such as Python, PHP, Java or Go
- Mastery of HTML, JavaScript and CSS
- Experience working with at least one relational database (e.g. MySQL) and one non-relational database (e.g. MongoDB)
- Strong track record of systems successfully running in production
- A flexible, multi-paradigm and pragmatic approach to programming and system design
- Enthusiasm for building fast and reliable backend systems in UNIX-like environments
- Ability to triage problems, prioritize tasks and implement change in a live, high-traffic system
