Job Description:
Experienced manager with strong hands-on background in agile software development practices, e-commerce and user-facing interactive applications, as well as advanced technologies, including Java EE, PHP, relational and NoSQL databases, and Web architecture required to join the New York Times team to lead development of next generation Customer Service applications. New York Times introduced paid subscriptions in 2011 and the project has since generated over 600,000 paid subscriptions. The role would require the candidate to lead a team of developers. The team would analyze, design, and develop solutions on top of the current Customer Service application to support evolving business requirements. The implementation environment is PHP, Java EE, and Linux. Job location is at The New York Times offices in New York City.
Qualifications:
- Strong Java and PHP
- Strong relational database background (Oracle, MySQL)
- Knowledge of NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, etc)
- Knowledge of Search systems (ElasticSearch, SOLR, etc)
- Strong understanding of Web Services
- Strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms
- Experience leading an Agile development process required
- Experience leading engineering teams required
- Experience with Sugar CRM is a plus
- Excellent communication skills, must be able to define solutions and partner with other development teams on execution
- Formal Computer Science background
Responsibilities:
- Day-to-day management of an engineering team
- Design, develop, and maintain web applications
- Ensure applications are developed with sufficient unit test coverage
- Work closely with QA to iterate on bug fixes
- See all changes through to production deployment
- Lead end-to-end solutions with dependencies on other teams
