NYTimes.com is looking for creative, talented, and passionate engineers to join our fast-paced, versatile team that builds out the core platforms that power the most viewed newspaper site in the world. You can help create NYTimes.com products, build high volume servers and be a part of a team that creates web applications that reaches millions of people, distributing high-quality news, information and entertainment.
Responsibilities:
- Build web applications and APIs for internal and external consumption
- Optimize system for scalability -- speed, high availability, minimal footprint
- Integrate third-party content and other data sources into our systems
- Work with product and design teams to define feature specifications
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Solid understanding of distributed, scalable web application architecture
- Fundamentals of software design, coupled with a deep understanding of object-oriented software and design patterns
- A mastery of various programming languages, including but not limited to PHP, Java, Python, Ruby, Perl
- Unix / Linux proficiency
- Experience writing web services such as REST
- Experience working with large datasets
- Experience with building/scaling comet applications a plus
- Experience with cloud computing is a plus (e.g., EC2, Hadoop)
- Understanding of Apple, Google and MS Push Notification a plus
