Job Description:
The NYTimes Games team is looking for a full stack engineer with a passion for front end development. The Web Developer will implement functionality using cutting edge frameworks like AngularJS and Backbone in new and exciting ways. The successful candidate will be an expert in JavaScript and its prominent libraries, and competent in PHP 5 or other modern object-oriented programming language.
Responsibilities include building HTML5 puzzle games, ongoing site maintenance, test automation using tools such as NodeJS/Grunt/Mocha, technical documentation, and front end optimization.
You’ll also be a part of a small multidisciplinary team that owns all aspects of the application. As such, you should expect to be involved and contribute on multi-platform software design decisions.
Required:
- Expert-level Javascript ability. 5-7 years of JavaScript development.
- 2+ years of AJAX development experience. In-depth knowledge of available JavaScript libraries and frameworks.
- Strong competency in CSS and semantic markup, including but not limited to tableless layouts. Experience with a CSS preprocessor (LESS/SASS) is desirable.
- Proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language (PHP 5 preferred).
- Computer Science degree or equivalent experience.
- Understanding of the fundamentals of software development, including best practices and OOD design patterns.
- Firm grasp of cross-browser JS and CSS complexities.
- Working knowledge of Relational Databases and API caching strategies
- Experience and passion for Test Driven Development.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage one's time effectively to meet multiple, tight deadlines.
