Job Description:
The New York Times is looking for a technology manager on the Content Management team. The CMS team works directly with the newsroom, business side and other technology groups to build and maintain the tools used to publish nytimes.com and our mobile apps. We provide the newsroom with the tools they need to manage our rich content and provide the rest of our technology organization with apis to surface that content for our readers.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical implementation of projects
- Contribute to architecture decisions that set the course for future development of our CMS
- Interface directly with the newsroom and product group to evaluate their needs and propose solutions
- Manage a small team of engineers that may include offshore contractors
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- 6+ years experience creating and maintaining applications, including experience in a leadership role
- Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate with end users and other technology teams
- A solid understanding of web application architecture, object oriented software, and design patterns.
Plusses:
- Experience with content management systems or blogging platforms
- Experience programming web applications in Java or PHP
- Understanding of RESTful web services-based architecture and related technologies.
- Experience with AGILE software design concepts
