Job Description:
A hands-on Technical Manager is needed to join the New York Times team to work on state-of-the-art pay model projects. New York Times is a world leader leader in paid digital subscriptions. The role would require the candidate lead analysis, design, development, and support of various components of login, registration, and billing functionality. Paid subscription solutions are based on Open Source technologies based on Java, PHP, Python and both SQL and NoSQL databases. The candidate will be expected to spend about 50% of his/her time coding and to manage an offshore development team (7 hours time shift).
Qualification:
- Strong Java
- Working knowledge of PHP and Python is a plus
- Strong relational database background (Oracle, MySQL or SQL server)
- Working knowledge of NoSQL databases (Mango, Cassandra) is a plus
- Web Services,
- XML (DOM, SAX),
- Strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms
- Experience with billing, accounting and financial systems a plus
- Search background a plus
- Experience with managing offshore development teams
- Formal Computer Science background
