Boston.com is seeking someone who is loves to build great new products, is savvy about SEO, and passionate about Boston to be our colleague at one of Boston’s biggest news site.
As Product Manager, you'll help us rethink and rebuild Boston.com, with a focus on local information and stories. You'll shape our digital product strategies, gather requirements, develop business rules, and liaison with development – then measure results and iterate.
One particular focus of this position will be to own SEO for Boston.com and BostonGlobe.com, ensuring that our systems work to gain maximum advantage on search, and keeping producers and product managers informed on best practices.
Responsibilities
· Analyze and identify new products and features on Boston.com, based on both audience and revenue potential, and create strategies around those products.
· Gather requirements from stakeholders in editorial, advertising, product and marketing for new products and new features of existing products, and document those requirements for the technology team.
· Help to maintain previously launched products, and identify ways to improve or alter those products.
· Use SEO best practices to increase our traffic from search engines. Test, measure, and learn to continuously improve our performance.
· Train producers, editors, and product managers to understand the mechanics of SEO so that they can use keywords more effectively, and consult with them as questions arise.
· Identify outside content and service providers to provide tools and content for Boston.com; work with them on implementation.
Qualifications and skills
The successful candidate will have:
· Experience managing web products and projects: defining objectives, writing requirements, collaborating on cross-functional teams, and overseeing development.
· Knowledge of SEO beyond the basics.
· An ability to quickly master new technologies
· Understanding of information-seeking behaviors and Internet business models
· A passion for the news; familiarity with smoots, Tim Cahill, and why the tuck rule mattered.
· 2+ years experience as a product manager or in a similar role.
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
